Analysis of Higher-order wavefront aberrations in the cornea of Korean

Abstract
Purpose: We have investigated the variation of Higher-order aberration in a Korean sample population with various age between 20 to 71 years old. Methods: We used Pentacam (Oculus Inc., Germany) to measure the total higher-order aberration, total spherical aberration, total coma aberration and total trefoil aberration of 290 patients with normal cornea. Result: Mean RMS values were 0.094¡¾0.021§­ for anterior HOA, 0.022¡¾0.004§­ for posterior HOA, 0.080¡¾0.022§­ for total HOA. There were significant positive correlations between anterior aberration and age(r = 0.335, p < 0.0001). But there were no significant correlations between posterior aberration and age(r = 0.096, p = 0.102). Mean RMS values were 0.279¡¾0.057§­ for anterior TSA, 0.057¡¾0.017§­ for posterior TSA, 0.223¡¾0.056§­ for total TSA. There were significant positive correlations between anterior aberration and age(r = 0.240, p < 0.0001). But there were significant negative correlations between posterior aberration and age(r = -0.358, p < 0.0001). Mean RMS values were 0.089¡¾0.046§­ for anterior TCA, 0.024¡¾0.012§­ for posterior TCA, 0.081¡¾0.045§­ for total TCA. There were significant positive correlations between anterior aberration and age(r = 0.118, p = 0.04) also there were significant positive correlations between posterior aberration and age(r = 0.311, p < 0.0001). Mean RMS values were 0.042¡¾0.035§­ for anterior TTA, 0.012¡¾0.008§­ for posterior TTA, 0.041¡¾0.032§­ for total TTA. There were significant positive correlations between anterior aberration and age(r = 0.250, p < 0.0001) also there were significant positive correlations between posterior aberration and age(r = 0.149, p = 0.011). Conclusion: It is considered that this data can be used as basic information for future studies for improving the quality of vision of modern human and, through the analysis of the HOA of cornea was to provide a better understanding of the optical part of the Korean`s eye.
